Chief Talent Officer

The Chief Talent Officer will oversee the firm’s talent development structure, including Human Resources, Attorney Recruitment, Professional Development and Diversity. Essential duties are performed personally or through delegation/supervision of subordinates. Maintains professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and Firm matters.

Provide leadership in developing and executing a human capital strategy in support of the Firm’s Strategic Plan, specifically in the areas of organizational development, strategic hiring, coaching, performance management, diversity and inclusion, compensation and succession planning.

Oversee the human capital function throughout the Firm, including leading a comprehensive human capital strategy and specific tactics around strategic hiring, attorney and non-attorney development, performance management and diversity and inclusion.

Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, serve on the core leadership team, as a functional expert and thought partner on key talent acquisition, development and retention strategies.

Translates the strategic plan into actionable and timely training and organizational development programs that will support the attainment of strategic business goals and operational objectives.

Drives the effective implementation of the overall strategy for talent management processes of learning and development.

Provide strategic guidance in the Human Resources area of compensation and benefits, policy development, legal compliance, employee relations and employee communications.

Develop comprehensive strategic recruiting and retentions plans to meet the human capital needs of the Talent team strategic goals.

Manage a team comprised of professionals in the area of Partner Recruitment, Attorney Recruitment, Professional Development, Human Resources and Diversity, supporting the execution of existing processes and initiatives.

Define, track and report success metrics.

Responsible for overall Talent budget which includes partner and non-partner attorney recruitment, professional development for attorneys and business professionals, human resources and diversity and inclusion.


Directly supervises and manages employees and is responsible for their overall direction, coordination, and evaluation.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Firm’s policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, training, and developing employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; making recommendations for hiring, promotion, compensation, and termination.


Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and 15 or more years progressive business management experience in the legal field or professional services organization, along with a strong background in all areas Professional Development/Organizational Design, Recruitment, Human Resources, Diversity/Inclusion; as well as have a proven ability to attract and retain outstanding talent and assemble and motivate high performance teams. The selected executive must have the ability to bring immediate credibility to the Talent function through his/her professional qualifications and leadership skills as well as project the highest levels of integrity. Superior interpersonal communication and presentation skills as well as proven organizational skills are required.

Strong communication skills including but not limited to negotiation, influence and consensus building in order to interface with employees/partners at all levels within the Firm as well as external customers, vendors and agencies.

Knowledge of human resource management and talent development with an ability to provide a high level of customer service. * Must be able to exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills and inspire decision-making by others.

Strong leader with the ability to assess, attract and develop talent.

Experience with managing growth and leading new business initiatives is critical.

Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel.

Computer proficient with extensive knowledge and understanding of Excel, Outlook, and MS Word preferred.

Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to communicate with courtesy and diplomacy, efficiently follow written and verbal instructions, provide information, and maintain effective relationships with a diverse group of attorneys, clients, staff, and outside contacts.

Outstanding analytical skills requiring an aptitude for detail, precision, and logic with comprehensive knowledge of complex business principles and practices in order to conduct detailed analyses of business operations.

Exhibit high degree of initiative and critical-thinking skills in exercising independent judgment and making decisions in managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, detail-oriented work environment. Ability to function in stressful situations and think strategically and analytically to troubleshoot and resolve issues quickly.

Proactive with excellent problem resolution, and follow-through skills. Ability to identify and analyze complex business administration-related issues and problems and to recommend and implement solutions. Ability to respond to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.

Exceptional organizational skills including record keeping, data collection, and system information. Ability to compile and analyze data, and furnish concise, detailed information in report format, written correspondence, e mail, or verbally.

Supervisory/managerial skills necessary in order to interact and communicate with subordinates, provide instruction/direction, determine work priorities, and coordinate the activities of a work team.

Ability to understand and support Firm goals, services, culture, and strategy in order to represent the Firm in a positive, professional manner.

Ability to occasionally retrieve and distribute files, written documentation, or office supplies weighing up to 10 pounds.

Ability to manage a geographically distributed team.

Ability and availability to travel to other Firm locations when required.
