On Monday, August 11, Diebold Inc. announced it will close its Newark, Ohio, plant, which will amount to a loss of nearly 100 jobs.
The North Canton-based company has plans to move all of its production to its Lexington, North Carolina, plant, and has given notice to all of its employees.
Diebold hopes its new plans will help cut $100 million in costs by the end of 2008, and will begin cutting jobs in Newark this October. The maker of ATMs, voting machines, and security equipment hopes to finalize the closing within the first three months of the new year.
Second-quarter profits for the company have dropped to $25.6 million, down from $26.9 million a year ago.
