On Friday, the Employment Development Department announced that Silicon Valley’s unemployment rate for July was 6.4%.
It was also reported that over one year the San Jose/Sunnyvale/Santa Clara metropolitan area lost 1,400 jobs.
In San Benito County alone the unemployment rate was 8.6%, and in Santa Clara County it was 6.4%.
A major contributor to Silicon Valley’s unemployment rate was the elimination of 3,000 construction jobs and 1,300 financial jobs.
As a whole, California’s unadjusted unemployment rate was 7.6%.
