North Carolina’s Lenoir County stayed steady at an
unemployment rate of 7.9% for the month of August as 58 out of the state’s 100 counties saw decreases.
The total unemployment numbers for the state dropped to nearly 4,279,000 workers in August, compared to nearly 4,345,000 during the previous month.
Although the state saw some improvements, Kinston Employment Security Commission director Beverly Alston claimed that the local economies still show signs of slowdown, matching national trends.
Officials claim that the state has seen its fair share of
unemployment claims for September and warn that when the numbers are released in late October counties could see an increase in their unemployment rates.
