The owners of beleaguered discount clothing retailer Steve & Barry’s told Ohio state officials the chain’s bankruptcy and planned liquidation will cost 216 jobs at its distribution center in Columbus.
BH S&B Holdings, which bought the chain in August at a bankruptcy auction and filed for Chapter 11 only three months later, said the facility will be shut down by January 14th.
Employment at the 1.2-million-square-foot shipping center has fluctuated seasonally, but the facility during peak periods has employed up to 1,250 workers.
Steve & Barry’s in July cut 125 workers from the facility, the same month it first filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
BH S&B this year trimmed the chain’s store count from 276 to 173.
